Weapon of choice.

Any person with the ability to think and create has a weapon of choice. Dictators have their armies, Musicians have their instruments, and I have a ball point pen. Seems like a strange choice given the wide and variable range of things I could choose to make my dreams come to life, but Im keeping it simple.
Today I tried something: I spent 3 hours in front of blank paper with 3 different pens. ( this is a world of threes, no?) I used a fine point free flow ink pen in black and blue, and then I tired an ole reliable stand by-the medium size ball point pen. sketching came fluently, and of the three drawings I completed today, it was my favorite. One of the better portraits that I have done in fact. Back when I still was in art classes, most of my thumbnails were done in ball point pen. There was something about the lines and the cohesion that only ever really showed up when I used my Papermate.
But it wasn't just while I was making art; when I sat down to do any writing ( which if you know anything about me, you know that is often) I usually have a pocket full of pens, pencils, and paint, but what I seem to find fits most comfortably in my hand is the generic black medium ball point. It is my soul mate, if someone could actually have a soulmate with a non-living object :). Some times things are just a fit. And when they come together, magic happens. creativity and expression comes with ease.
Anyone could chuck this up to luck or self delusion, ( really? a pen? How the hell does a PEN make a difference?) and I can't explain why it works that way, but it does. When someone feels like they are equiped to make something happen, there is no doubt, no hesitation, no reserve. They stand face to face with their canvas, or their audience, or their enemies, and they make their moves. That is how Im going to change to world.

I used to loath blogs.

There was a time in my life when I would cringe just hearing the word blog. For the longest time now, anytime that I have done any writing online it has been under a different name, though the concept stayed the same. So now I am faced with my hypocracy. I have started a BLOG. When it comes down to it, I just don't like the word, so I guess it is all up to symantics for me.

It's time to use what I have, and see what happens in the end. I don't expect to have a following or even an audience, but at least it will be nice to have a place to come to discuss the ideas that are roaming around in m head. I used to have Philosphy, Art History, Theory and Criticism, and Bible to discuss all the different realms of reason and thought, but now there is hardly a place to find 2 people together who I know and who want to sit and talk about such things. It seems almost like talking and conversation has because a forgotten art form. It has become awkward and inconveinent to have conversations face to face anymore. Texting, email, facebook, myspace, aim, skype, gmail, stickem,.... the list goes on and on of ways we are connected, but there is still Disconnect.

So we'll see what happens. Im going to try to make this a priority at least once a week to bring a topic to the table which has real value worth speaking about. Feel free to return and contribute. I welcome it. Till next time.
